Beyond the buzz

How I Get It Done

My professional motto is simple: sweat the details, and the rest will take care of itself. For every project, no matter what the size, I use a tried-and-tested methodology:

  1. Understand
  2. Conceptualize
  3. Execute
  4. Learn.

UNDERSTAND There’s no project if there’s no understanding of the project sponsor’s business and what results the project is expected to deliver. And at every step during a project’s executional phase, I continue to ask questions. The most important deliverable from this undertaking is to correctly frame the problem.

CONCEPTUALIZE A great idea comes from a well-defined problem. After all, how effective could a solution be if it was crafted to solve the wrong problem?

EXECUTE Owning the solution that I created means that I will take responsibility for its execution. Period.

LEARN There’s something to be learned from every experience: the good, the bad, the ugly. Everyone involved stands to benefit from asking what was learned: how can the good be ‘canned’ for future repeatability; how to prevent the bad from ever occurring again; and how to live with the ugly – the necessary evils, the unavoidables, all those things that no one could possibly control.
